I Was Born by a River was an exhibition displayed at The Rocks Discovery Museum as part of Sydney’s NAIDOC events in 2016.
Curated by Djon Mundine OAM, a member of the Bandjalung people of northern New South Wales, this collection of photographs, paintings and moving images explored Sydney Harbour’s origins as a flooded river valley and captured the significance of the Sydney basin to local Aboriginal clans. Other exhibiting artists invited by Djon were Peter ‘Yanada’ McKenzie, Joseph ‘Joe’ Mallard and Michael Philps.
